Hind is the hero for Leverstock as United pay the penalty

A Liam Hind penalty in first half stoppage time earned a 1-0 win for Leverstock Green at Biggleswade United in Tuesday’s SSML Premier clash.

The home side had the better of the early exchanges, with Jack Boyd firing just over the bar after a Kieran Jimmy punch had got as far as the edge of the box.

A slip from Liam O’Keefe then presented Boyd with a great chance after 17 minutes, but Jimmy came quickly off his line to make a fine save.

Leverstock’s first decent effort on goal came in the 21st minute when Timi Salako won the ball and played in Hind, but his shot went just wide.

As the clock ticked into stoppage time, a cross from Paul Somers was blocked by the hand of defender Luke Jones, and the referee pointed straight to the spot.

Hind tucked away the penalty with virtually the last kick of the half to send Leverstock into the break with a 1-0 lead.

Hind almost added a second from a free-kick 10 minutes into the second half, but Biggleswade keeper Rui Goncalves managed to divert it away with his legs.

As the half wore on, the home side started to get the better of things and Gavin Smith had to clear a cross from Josiah Hunte off the line.

Hunte could have equalised three minutes later when he went clean through, but shot over the bar.

Three minutes from time, Biggleswade were in again when a ball over the top put Boyd through on goal, but his shot was wide and Leverstock held on for the three points.
