Biggleswade FC have drawn just two of their 30 SSML Division One games this season - both of them with Harefield United.

Saturday’s clash between the two sides at the Carlsberg Stadium ended in a goalless stalemate as both defences came out on top.

Biggleswade FC started brightly and could have taken the lead inside three minutes as Rhys Thorpe broke down the left hand side and crossed into the box where Tom Cookman was just unable to get his header on target.

Harefield, through Aaron Mcleish in particular, were always a threat although Josh Holmes and Nathan George were tracking his every move.

Cookman came close again as he flashed an effort over the bar and Biggleswade thought they had a good claim for a penalty not given.

Whilst Harefield had a succession of corners they all come to nothing although Sam Wyer had to be alert to push a couple away.

With the pressure firmly on leaders FC to get the three points it was they who had to take the risks in the second half.

With Adam Hunt having a bigger impact it was he who picked the perfect cross where, with the goal at his mercy, George Bailey failed to get a proper connection and the opportunity went begging.

The introduction of Alex Marsh looked to give FC the edge they needed as twice he played Lee Northfield down the left, though both efforts went wide. Marsh himself had an effort clear the bar.

With Biggleswade having to commit more players forward the space was opening for Mcleish. First Wyer earned himself a bloody nose as he bravely made a 50/50 save, and then Nathan George threw himself in front of a goalbound effort.

It was a fair but hard-earned point for both sides - but two points dropped for Biggleswade in their charge to the title.
