Oakley and Shefford hit five in opening fixtures

The Beds County League kicked off with a series of eight Premier Division supported by Sportsform games in midweek.

On Tuesday evening Eastcotts AFC with a goal from Aaron Perrett ran out 1-0 home winners over Pavenham before 24 hours later the other 14 clubs commenced their own seasons.

The biggest winners of the night were AFC Oakley M&DH who ran out 5-0 home winners over Marston Shelton Rovers. Matt Barnes netting twice to go alongside strikes from Robbie Alder, Reuben Hukin and Ali Smith to bring up the nap hand whilst the biggest away winners were Shefford Town & Campton who won 5-1 at Ampthill Town Reserves. Jonnie Stratford and Adam Larsen both on the scoresheet twice to go with a single strike from Jake Renney against a lone reply via Neil Mangan.

Also enjoying life on the road were Sandy with a 2-0 victory at newly promoted Elstow Abbey. Both goals coming inside a two minute period early in the second half from Toren Purser and Ben Hall. For the other promoted club Cranfield United it was a 2-0 home win over Sharnbrook. Phil Kempsell netting in the 65th minute and Martin Holland adding the second two minutes before time.

Last season’s champions Renhold United got their defence of their title underway with a 3-1 win at Caldecote. Behind from a goal struck by James Adams they were soon level via Jason Allision before Carl Warner shot them in front in the 25th minute and Mark Reed added the third just before time.

Elsewhere just down the road on the Green, Ickwell & Old Warden had to come from behind to see off Wilstead 3-2. All started well enough when Connor Green netted after 10 minutes but a brace of goals from Michael Jones inside three minutes at the start of the second half placed the visitors in front. It was Ricky Aris who levelled matters in the 65th minute before Andrew Vallom shot home what turned out to be the winning goal four minutes later.

The final game at Hillgrounds saw hosts AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College beat Flitwick Town 2-1. Courtney Boughton grabbing both goals against a lone Town reply from Oliver Banfield.
