The Reds immediately went on the attack, showing their intent in this rehearsal for the SSML Division One Cup final on April 12.

Following several attacks they were rewarded when the ball was played to Pat Daly in the channel. He ran across goal, was unable to get his shot away, but did square it back to Jason Penman who shot and scored from close range to give Langford a sixth minute lead.

Daly continued to trouble the visitors’ defence, and had a goalline shot somehow scrambled away by Simon Dent in the Wodson goal.

Langford continued to press, restricting Wodson to long clearances and breakaway attacks, none of which came to anything.

In the dying seconds of the half Daly hit a post, but the ball flew clear.

In the second half Wodson rallied and Steve Towers headed over from an early corner, but Langford soon started to apply more pressure. Neither side appeared to be able to put passes together, and the game became slightly scrappy.

Daly had two more chances to extend the home team’s lead, but was inches wide in both cases. The Reds held on comfortably to extend their unbeaten run.

Langford, who slipped back to third after Harpenden Town’s win over Wodson in midweek, now host fourth placed Baldock Town in SSML Division One on Saturday.
