Hatters beat Bluies in Premier Cup Final
Rokermen and United lose but Reds earn point
THREE goals in the space of seven first half minutes effectively ended Arlesey Town's chances of lifting the Bedfordshire FA Premier Cup at the Armadillo Stadium on Tuesday evening in front of 258 spectators.
Luton Town boss Richard Money had clearly learned from the mistakes made by his predecessor Mick Harford when they faced Biggleswade Town i the same competition last term.
He had under-estimated the capabilities of Zamaretto League opposition by sending along a makeshift team while this time Money was keen to see his side lift the silverware.
Having edged the opening phase without actually creating too many openings, it was Claude Gnapka who volleyed past Blues keeper Richard Hayward from just inside the area in the 36th minute.
Five minutes later another volley by Dan Walker from similar distance distance made it 2-0. Then on 43 minutes the game was effectively sealed when former Arlesey star Adam Watkins waltzed round the home defence and their sprawling keeper before clipping the ball home from an acute angle.
Early in the second half Walker saw his angled shot cannon back off Hayward's upright and he repeated the feat shortly afterwards before the Blues finally pulled one back. A telling 77th minute right wing cross from last term's player of the season Stuart Sinclair was headed past Luton custodian Kevin Pilkington by Chris Watters who slid in to meet the ball on his knees.
Elsewhere on Tuesday in the Premier Diviison of the Spartan South Midlands League, Biggleswade United's 3-1 weekend win at Kingsbury London Tigers was quickly forgotten as they crashed 4-0 at Hatfield Town who were 1-0 up at the break through Jay Walsh before Terry Caswell, Jason Caswell and Trevor Golder completed the rout.
And it was a similat story for Stotfold who held highly-fancied Harefield in a 2-2 draw at the weekend.
They hosted relegated Southern League side Dunstable Town at Roker Park and went behind to a 23rd minute John Burnett penalty before conceding twice more in second half stoppage time courtesy of a Des Elliott double.
Langford travelled to Hertford having won their opener against Holmer Green at the weekend and they came away with a deserved point. They took the lead through James Peters in the 33rd minute but Attila Korsovezcki levelled for the hosts 13 minutes into the second half.
