Biggleswade AC hosted the first of its summer athletics fests last Thursday – a jumps fest.

These events are very popular with top level athletes from across the UK and on June 16 the UK’s No1 U13 long jumper, Jack Fayers, from Ipswich, competed.

Jack increased his ranking with a new personal best jump of 5.42m.

Just four Biggleswade AC athletes were also competing at the event: Leonie Brunning had a very successful evening recording personal best results in both the high jump and the pole vault, and sisters, Kira and Heidi Oestreicher, both managed personal best results in the long jump.

The next event is the Track Fest on the evening of Thursday, July 7. Full details can be found on the club’s website at www.biggleswadeac.org.uk

Biggleswade AC were among 44 teams taking part in the annual Greensand Ridge Relay on Saturday. The race follows the way-marked Greensand Ridge path from Leighton Buzzard to Northill.

With six stages of between four and nine miles in length, the route covers a total distance of 43 miles. As well as the teams there were a further 13 individuals who ran the route solo.

By the end of stage 3 the team were ahead by six minutes thanks to the outstanding efforts of the team’s only lady member, Juliet Nayler, but a navigational error during one of the later stages meant they finished in 36th place with a total time of 5hrs 1min 27secs.

However, Biggleswade AC’s two solo runners, Paul Cooke and Rob Morgan, had more success finishing in second and third place respectively, Paul in a time of 5hrs 25mins 05secs and Rob in 5hrs 41mins 21secs.
