Biggleswade boost hopes of avoiding drop

With Letchworth only able to field four players Biggleswade had the bonus of a walkover at string five.

Simon Gray at string four faced Steve Morgan and took the first two games comfortably 15-4 and 15-9. Morgan mounted a comeback in the third to take that 15-12 before Gray eased to victory with a 15-5 win in the fourth.

Skipper Dan Easton at number three against Neil Morgan had a comfortable straight game win (15-7, 15-9, 15-11) giving Biggleswade victory on the night.

Owen Ledger at string two faced Phil Jenkins and took the first easily 15-8. Jenkins forced the second game to a tie-break but Ledger held his nerve to take the game 16-14 before going on top take the third 15-12.

At string one Jay Ledger was looking to avenge his defeat earlier in the season against Nathan Derrick. However it wasn’t to be with the excellent Derrick winning in straight games 15-8, 15-10 and 15-11.

The win lifts Biggleswade up to sixth, three places above the drop zone, however, with few points separating the bottom five teams, and relegation rivals having games in hand, Biggleswade still need to win at least one of their remaining two matches of the season to avoid being relegated.

The previous week Biggleswade recorded a fantastic 15-7 win over table-toppers Gosling.

Ffielding an unchanged team for the third week running, Tony Rumbold at number five got back to winning ways with a straight games success over Paul Williamson (15-12, 15-13 and 15-10).

Simon Gray at string four faced Martin White. White took the first game easily 15-6. Gray improved in the second before losing 16-14 after a tie break but then went on to take the third 15-6. White however regrouped to take the fourth 15-8 to seal a 3-1 win.

Skipper Dan Easton at number three against Tom Bensley sped to a two game lead (15-8 and 15-10). Bensley edged a close third 15-12 before Easton closed out victory with a comfortable 15-6 win in the fourth.

Owen Ledger at number two was up against Robin McCorquodale and went down to a straight game defeat (15-11, 15-123 and 15-8).

With the match level at 2-2 at string one Jay Ledger played Mark Le Conte and continued his excellent recent form with a straight games victory to seal an impressive win (15-6, 18-16 and 15-7).
