This match was a crucial six-pointer and S&S needed to come out of it with some points. After a somewhat tentative start S&S began to make more forays into the opposition’s half.

The new combination of Gravell and Alford on the left worked well, Alford’s deft stick skills proving a real asset as she managed to thread the ball down the wing to Lambourne.

S&S were in the ascendancy and finally earned a short corner. Alford pinged the ball out to Fury who laid it off to Bartram, she connected perfectly and the ball flew into the left corner.

Fogg’s calm demeanour kept the defence focused and alert. Welwyn had one or two shots but Fuller was on hand to clear the danger.

The second half saw S&S nearly concede at a short corner as both Bartram and Hall were deemed to have broken too soon, leaving Fogg, Alford and Fuller to save the day.

From then on S&S kept possession well with Bartram and Ashby, Gravell and Green all putting in a good shift in midfield.

Player of the match was Tia Alford.
