S&S hockey men top of the league

Shefford & Sandy Mens firsts secured an excellent 6-1 win at home to West Herts 3 - who had scored 34 goals in their previous four games.

After an even start S&S began to assert their dominance playing some of the best hockey seen at Fortress Sandy for many a year.

S&S went into the break 3-0 up and continued their complete dominance in the second half. There were some great individual and team goals and the six separate scorers were Chris Fell, Doug Dawson, Elliot Jones, Ian Cooper, Jon Wheeler and Stuart Perry.

This was a really top team effort and leaves the Mens 1s at the top of the table with six wins out of six.

The Mens 2s Beat Royston 3s 4-1 without really shifting into top gear. There were two really fantastic individual goals from youngsters Lewis Bridger and Liam Stevens in the first half.

The Mens 2s did not have it all their own way though and Royston had the chances to score more than the one they did. Senior pro Steve Ashdown though with a brace put the game out of Royston’s reach in the second half. Liam Stevens was the livewire man of the match.

S&S Mens 3s lost 4-1 to Rickmansworth 3s. Ricky 3s had this game won in the first 30 minutes with three goals, as the Mens 3s were made to pay for some lacklustre passing.

In the second half S&S played much better and were unlucky not to nick more than one goal in the second half. A sprightly Trevor Bridger produced a great finish to give some consolation to the team. Greg Illet was man of the match with a strong defensive performance.

S&S Mens 4s picked up their first point of the season in an entertaining 3-3 draw against Bishop Stortford 6s played at Hockerill College.

After being 2-0 down at half time, goals from Jacob Barnes, Angus Monaghan and Dan Coverdale, the latter set up after some individual brilliance from Barnes, earned the Mens 3s a deserved point, Barnes was the man of the match.
