Potton win Friday's thrilling Heritage Cup Final

Man of the match performance by Macfarlane

With just three balls to spare, Potton Town eased past Ampthill Town's respectable 139 total to lift the 2009 Heritage Cup by seven wickets at The Hollow tonight (Friday).

With Potton winning the toss and inserting Ampthill in to bat, Matt Barnes (11) and Simon Morrall (42) got them off to a solid start as they reached 47 runs off their first four overs.

Dave Gould added another 20 before being bowled by Potton's Sean Stevens (2-24 off four).

Neil Battams added another 20 until he was run out while the innings closed on 139-8, Kelvin Macfarlane also taking 2-47 off four.

With Potton early reply stuttering as the first 16 balls produced just nine runs, once Sean Stevens (24) got his eye in they seemed to come alive.

And after Tom Fletcher's departure, man of the match Macfarlane came to the wicket to bludgeon the Amps' bowling to all corners of the ground for 60 (five sixes) before he was finally run out with just two runs needed for victory.

Then a leg side glance to the boundary from new batsman Sam Worthington brought up the winning 142-3 with three balls left, Ampthill skipper Chris Degnan having taken 1-28 and teammate Will Sneath 2-31.

The trophy was presented to Potton skipper Colin Stevens by Thomas Kavanagh who represented the sponsors.
