SLIDESHOW: Potton United v Bugbrooke

United book home FA Vase tie with Wivenhoe

Potton breezed into the first round proper of the FA Vase with a comfortable 5-0 win against UCL Division One side Bugbrooke at The Hollow on Saturday ... but United ended the afternoon with ten men after Tom Beech threw his toys out of the pram.

With just three minutes left and having done so much work, the Potton striker 'lost it' as the referee waved away his appeal for a penalty when Badgers keeper Steve Sprules appeared to foul him inside the box.

Beaten 4-0 by Bugbrooke in a pre-season friendly, the hosts were certainly quick to stamp their authority on this tie. In fact it took them exactly 46 seconds as Dave Goodall's shot slipped between Sprules' raised hands and into the net!

But Sprules made amends when a Dave Fish cross was met by Beech's head although the Badgers keeper had no answer as James Billington's 33rd minute 25 yarder crept in for 2-0.

Keeper Ben Houseago made just one first half save with his legs but with United needing a third to realistically seal the tie, in the 53rd minute Dean Hamilton netted from ten yards.

A great save by Houseago from Jack Bartlett ensured a clean sheet while Beech's 80th minute cross resulted in an unstoppable Jez McMurrough volley.

And five minutes later it was Fisk who scored with a cracking 18 yarder which brought up the nap hand. Unfortunately Beech's outburst took the shine off the win – and the FA's 900 prize! – and it will cost him a three match suspension which could mean he'll miss the next round tie when Dean Shipp's side are home Wivenhoe Town on October 4.
