Waders and Blues beaten at home
United win, Potton and Stotfold draw while Reds are well beaten
Biggleswade Town were beaten 3-0 by table-topping Hitchin Town in this afternoon's Southern League derby at the Carlsberg Stadium, the Waders being forced to play second fiddle to a side destined to make a quick return to the Premier Division.
The Canaries Harry Hunt had the ball in the home net after ten minutes but that was ruled out for offside although there was no doubt about his 'second'. Biggleswade keeper Ashley Timms was almost a hero as he tried to block but the ball dipped into the bottom corner eleven minutes later.
Timms was to then turn villain in the 23rd minute when he sent a free kick straight across his own penalty area to unmarked Hitchin centre forward James Arlick who could hardly believe his luck as he waltzed in and slotted into an unguarded net.
Brett Donnelly did hit the visitors' woodwork before the break but the majority of the afternoon's 315 spectators had little doubt how it would finish when luckless Waders central defender Paul Reynolds put Ieuan Lewis' cross into his own net in the 73rd minute.
Up the road at the Armadillo Stadium, Arlesey Town were to suffer a similar fate when beaten 4-1 by Sutton Coldfield Town.
The Midlanders went ahead on 14 minutes through Wilson while Milligan added a second on 36 and Murrall made it 3-0 eight minutes into the second half.
And while the Blues pulled one back through Zema Abbey in the 61st minute, in the dying seconds Marshall (who scored a late hat-trick against Biggleswade last weekend) netted Sutton Coldfield's fourth.
In the Spartan South Midlands League, Langford's trip to Roots Lane ended in another crushing defeat as hosts Tring Athletic put six goals past them without reply.
However it was better fortune for Biggleswade United who lost 3-2 at Tring in midweek. They were away to Brimsdown Rovers and came away with a 3-0 victory.
At Roker Park, Stotfold hosted St Ives Town in a United Counties League clash with the game surprisingly ending goalless.
And finally to Huntingdon where Potton United fought back to earn a point in a 1-1 draw in a real game of two halves.
They conceded in the 33rd minute when a bizarre free kick whiuch finally ended with Huntingdon's Jamie Graham beating Aaron Loney while Adam Furness levelled for Potton two minutes from time.
