Waders run Histon close
Blue Square side win seven-goal thriller
Biggleswade Town went down by the odd goal in seven when they finally hosted Blue Square Premier side Histon on Wednesday although the visitors were put under pressure for long periods following a magnificent performance by the Waders.
Around 180 spectators saw Histon take a 15th minute lead but Biggleswade rolled up their sleeves and drew level through new signing Daniel Flack (ex-Wivenhoe) on the half hour.
The Waders continued to push Histon's full first team squad – their coach John Beck only brought 13 players as the reserves also had a game against Sudbury – and shortly after the break, Glen Lamacraft gave the home side a 2-1 lead.
However the visitors went on to have a purple patch and score three goals inside 20 minutes, only for the Town to pull one back when Bobby Dance rose along with a Histon defender to meet a Paul Garrett corner kick for 4-3. And in the final action, Jack Weeden was denied a deserved equaliser.
"If someone had said we would score three against a side like Histon, then I would have laughed," said Town boss Chris Nunn.
"But we gave them a really good game. The downside is that we've picked up another two or three injuries."
The Waders now host Conference South side Hornchurch on Saturday.
