Well Biggleswade band formed earlier this year are looking to remind people about one of those things with a gig on Saturday May 14 at The Red Lion in the town.

The four piece band Popscene have taken their inspiration from the spirit of Cool Britannia rather than Jennifer Anniston’s hairstyle.

The four piece band are made up of Paul Wright on lead guitar and vocals with Andy Wilkins on the drums.

Charlie Tofts plays the bass guitar and Paul Weller on vocals and guitars,

The lead singer’s influences include Tom Waits for the songs, Nick Cave for the voice, Morrissey for the lyrics, The Edge / Graham Coxon for guitar and Joe Strummer for the attitude.

Popscene aims to recreate the Britpop sounds of the 90s (and occasionally beyond), capturing the spirit of Cool Britannia...

They’ll be covering songs from the likes Oasis, Blur and Stone Roses , to Supergrass, Paul Weller (the slightly more famous one) and Arctic Monkeys, by way of Inspiral Carpets, Suede, Radiohead, Pulp...  And everything else in between!

The band’s attitude is that if it’s danceable and cool, it’s in.

Formed in January this year they realised at the first rehearsal that most of the songs being suggested had the Britpop era in common.

The foursome decided to use that as the theme and they chose the band name Popscene from an early Blur single, made a list of songs, rehearsed them and started gigging.

The music at The Red Lion starts at 9pm.
