Henlow Theatre: Icy evening of sex factor awaits you

Sub zero temperatures and sexy routines will make for record breaking audiences.

At least that’s what the amateur dramatic society featured in this play-within-a-play are banking on.

Henlow Amateur Theatrical Society is performing two one-act plays.

Strictly Sex Factor (On Ice) is the latest one-act play in the successful Little Grimley series written by David Tristram. The Little Grimley Amateur Dramatic Society is in crisis.

A perfect storm of miniscule profits, failing equipment, freezing temperatures, lack of imagination and dwindling (almost nonexistent) Saturday night audiences is compounded by a drubbing from the local theatre critic about their most recent performance.

It’s time for some breakthrough thinking and exemplary execution. Time, in fact, for Gordon, their chairman and leading thinker, to come up with a show to rival any Saturday night offering from ITV or the BBC. It’s all or nothing. Will they be able to pull it off? There’s only one way to find out!

Touching Tomorrow by Gillian Plowman boldly tackles several themes including homelessness and disability.

Dorcas looks after her middle-aged brother Vincent who has learning difficulties. She has brought home Gemma, a homeless girl who says she has been raped .

Dorcas invites her to stay, despite the protests of her local reporter friend, Kate.

Is Gemma telling the truth, is she fantasising or just an opportunist? It is Vincent who provides the possible way ahead for Gemma.

The play is set in the present day with all the action taking place in the Dorcas and Vincent’s living room over two days.
