Jobs; Apprenticeships are booming

Apprenticeships are fast becoming the norm for young people who want an alternative to going to university, says a government minister.

The National Apprenticeship Service says almost 370,000 applications for the learn while you earn schemes were submitted online between February and April, up by more than 32 per cent, compared to last year.

Apprenticeship vacancies also witnessed significant growth. More than 32,600 vacancies were advertised online in the three months, an increase of almost 15 per cent. And on April 26, there were 17,700 live vacancies online, the highest number recorded.

“We want more employers to take advantage of the advice and support available from the National Apprenticeship Service and consider how hiring an apprentice could benefit their business.”
