Artistic flair at town’s station

Biggleswade Railway station now features four murals, which were inspired by designs created by Ivcl Valley School pupils.

The youngsters at the Biggleswade school researched the town’s history to come up with their designs, which feature familiar scenes as well as the safety bike and tractor invented by Dan Albone.

A team of professional graffitti artists visited to school to teach the children about art and rail safety, before bringing the designs to life.

Artist Gatta said: “The young people now have some form of legacy. Most of their art has been replicated at the station by us as graffiti artists.

“We are quite proud to be doing this and to be involved with the school. Bigleswade was one of the schools we are most chuffed with!”

First Capital Connect (FCC) in partnership with Network Rail unveiled the art this week.

There are murals at 12 key stations on the FCC network to engender civic pride and make the stations an even more pleasant place to visit.

FCC Customer Service Director Keith Jipps said: “First Capital Connect is delighted to have to have worked with local schools and communities.

“These murals will highlight our partnerships with the communities on the network as well as giving our passengers a more pleasant station environment.”
