Biggleswade has become the first place in Bedfordshire to get connected to 5G on the EE network.

The mobile network operator and internet service provider switched on 5G in a further 35 places across the UK today (April 8) - bringing its total place count to 160.

EE has added outdoor 5G coverage to some of the UK’s most popular tourist landmarks, historical sites, and coastal locations as lockdown restrictions start to ease and attractions

begin to reopen from next week - and you can now get it on Biggleswade Common too.

Marc Allera, CEO Consumer Division, BT, said: “We’ve announced that we’ve switched on our award-winning 5G network in a further 35 towns and cities across the UK, fulfilling the

commitment we set last year to double our 5G place count. With the gradual easing of lockdown restrictions expected in the coming weeks and months, the increased capacity and

faster speeds of our 5G network will ensure our customers stay connected as footfall starts to increase in historically busy places.”

Hilary Chipping, Chief Executive of the South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership (SEMLEP), said: “It’s never been more important for people to stay connected

online, whether that’s for work or keeping in touch with family and friends.

“The need for digital connectivity is predicted to grow even further over the next few years and this will be particularly important for our communities in the South East Midlands.

“The fact EE has extended its 5G network to Biggleswade is extremely welcome. This extension will further support our businesses and people to maximise the benefits of this

new technology.”
