Is your school garden the greatest?

We are looking for local schools to show off their good work in the great outdoors in the Times & Citizen Garden Of The Year competition.

All schools are welcome to enter, it’s free and there are prizes to be won!

Judges will be looking for that special garden where pupils in particular have done their bit to create a fantastic outdoor space for growing plants or vegetables. It doesn’t matter how big or small it is, it’s the effort that’s gone into it that really counts.

Best school/ pre-school garden is a popular category in our annual Garden Of The Year competition, run once again with our friends at Frosts at Willington.

There are also plenty of categories to enter for domestic gardens, but that’s not all.

Allotment holders and growers, we welcome your entries for the best allotment or vegetable garden. And there’s a special category saluting the area’s best community gardens.

There are two new categories for 2012.

Do you have stunning displays in baskets or pots? Then why not put yourself forward in the best hanging baskets or containers section.

And in this year of hosepipe bans, how well will your garden cope in drier summers? We are looking for the best drought-tolerant/ water conservation garden too.

It’s simple to enter Garden Of The Year.

All you have to do is complete the entry form here and submit it, with a colour photograph of your nominated garden, to the address given on the form by the closing date of June 22.

The judges will then select those they wish to visit and this will take place in mid-July. The competition is open to any reader in this newspaper’s distribution area.
