A Biggleswade woman whose daughter died after suffering mental illness is hosting a fundraising event this weekend.

Sue Sheppard, 58, is organising a 10k sponsored walk starting and finishing at the Royal Oak in Potton, with a barbecue and raffle, on Sunday, August 23, from 10am. A similar event held two years ago raised almost £5,000, and Sue is hoping to top that mark for the charity Rethink Mental Illness.

She said: “I lost my daughter Charlotte in 2009. I have spent time since, trying to raise awareness and raise money to help others. There is little NHS funding or help and young people have nowhere to go when they are in crisis. Mental Illness is a killer.

“Taking part are Charlotte’s Angels - all those that take part in the walk - and I could not do this without them and their support. I have had lots of local support with raffle prize donations – a big thank you to them.”

If you want to get involved, just turn up on the day. Donations can be made on Sue’s Facebook and Justgiving pages.
