36 bags of litter were cleared by a group of concerned Biggleswade residents last weekend.

The group led by Mark Foster decided to clear up areas around the train station after the problem came to light on the We Love Biggleswade Facebook page.

The success of the event has led to Central Beds Council agreeing to send their hit squad down to complete the litter picking in the area, cut back the brambles and remove the washing machine, microwave and other debris in the ditches.

Mark Foster said: “It was really good to work together, and to hear people offer to help next time, and thank us for doing it.

“All in all a really great result for that part of the town, and pleasing that we’re able to work together to improve things.”

There are plans to carry on with the litter picking in other areas of Biggleswade and they can be found by visiting the We Love Biggleswade Facebook page.

Commenting on the page, Natalie Doig said: “Great news! Well done all the litter pickers and Mark!”

There are now over 1,450 members on the Facebook page talking about Biggleswade issues.
