Eighteen members of Sandy Twinning Association travelled to Malaunay, near Rouen.

The group was welcomed at the town hall on the Friday evening by deputy mayor Claude Leumaire, three other assistants and other councillors who gave up their bank holiday to give the English visitors a very warm reception.

On the Saturday the French hosts took their guests to the city of Amiens for the day.

The morning was devoted to a boat trip around the ‘hortillonages’, an extensive area of canals and islands dating from Roman times and used for market gardening.

After a traditional French picnic in a park near the Somme, the party walked into the city for a tour of the magnificent Gothic cathedral, the old town and the market. In the evening there was a paella dinner at a country ranch.

On the Sunday, the English guests went off in different directions with their hosts, returning home on the Monday.
