Since November more than 64,000 votes have been cast for six charities, with Sue Ryder securing 37 per cent of the total.

Sue Ryder, which runs St John’s Hospice in Moggerhanger, was also the airport’s chosen charity for 2012 and 2013.

Paresh Nar, regional fundraiser for Sue Ryder, said “The last two years have been outstanding.

“We’ve had such great support from the airport’s staff and passengers. Thanks to our supporters. We are over the moon to have won the public vote and look forward to delivering even more hours of incredible care.”
