The 1st Sandy Swan Beavers were joined by the Saxon Cubs for an activity day at Boyd Field in Henlow.
A total of 24 beavers and cubs had a fun packed day which started with setting up their tents. This was followed by rifle shooting, archery, pond dipping, bug hunting and pioneering, where they made ballistas, a type of weapon.
After lunch the group set out on a scavenger hunt and then had a brief talk on fire safety before collecting kindling for the fires, cooking their own tea of pitta bread pizzas.
After taking their tents down they sang songs around the camp fire and cooked smores – a traditional campfire treat popular in the United States and Canada, consisting of a roasted marshmallow and a layer of chocolate sandwiched between two pieces of cracker.
The day ended at 7.30pm and everyone said they had thoroughly enjoyed the day. Thanks were paid to the adult leaders for planning the day and giving up their time.
