Arrested man believed to be Dave Lee Travis

The man arrested this morning by police investigating the Jimmy Savile case is understood to be former BBC and Chiltern Radio DJ Dave Lee Travis.

National newspapers have reported he was arrested at his home in Mentmore, near Leighton Buzzard.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: “Officers working on Operation Yewtree have this morning arrested a man in his 60s in connection with the investigation.

“A man was arrested at 7.45am on suspicion of sexual offences and has been taken into police custody.”

The man was arrested as part of the ‘Others’ strand of the Met’s investigation, the spokesman added, meaning it is unrelated to the allegations against Savile.

The DJ recently said he “categorically denied” allegations published in the national press about him following the Savile revelations.
