Authentic Thai cuisine in Shefford

AN authentic taste of Thai cuisine will be on offer to Shefford residents at a new restaurant.

The Bangkok Lounge is now trading at the premises of the former Old Swan pub in Bedford Road.

The Grade II listed building is believed to date back to 1670 and has undergone extensive refurbishment.

Managing director and entrepreneur Motin Miah, who also runs Bangkok Lounge restaurants in Barton-le-Clay and in Harpenden, Herts had been delighted with the reception he has had from residents.

He said: “We have been packed ever since we opened and have had some great feedback from people in the town. There was a limit to what we could do with the refurbishment as the building is listed, but we have made a lot of changes including new lighting, furniture and decoration.”

Motin – who will soon be supplying Waitrose with frozen Thai meals to sell through another one of his companies – says customers can expect food which is high in quality and authenticity.

He added: “I have spent a lot of time in Thailand working and doing research, and my time there inspired me to open the restaurants. Most of our vegetables are sourced locally but we import herbs and spices from Thailand which are not available to buy in the UK.”
