Award nomination for high-flying Rob

Rob Wenham, 17, of Henlow has been put forward for a Young People of the Year (YOPEY) accolade after 11 years of service in the Henlow Clifton Scout Group.

The youngster is now set to become a scout leader and is also a head cadet at the Beds Police Cadets. He was on duty when the Prince of Wales visited the area last month.

He also had the chance to meet Beds Police Chief Constable Colette Paul.

Rob, of Jordan Close, was nominated by Central Beds Councillor and former chairman Angela Barker.

Mrs Barker met Rob when she was attending her last engagement as chairman.

She was presenting awards for the National Citizenship Scheme (NCS) at Shuttleworth College, Old Warden – where Rob is a student.

She said: “He just stands out as a good young leader.”

After completing the NCS programme Rob and others from Henlow put on a musical concert at Arlesey Football Club and raised £250 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

He has also helped to raise money for the East Anglian Air Ambulance charity.

Rob joined the police cadets because he wants to be a policeman and he thought this would give him an insight into what the job entails and a possible head-start.

He volunteers six hours a week on parades and training, with public duties on top of that.
