Car catches fire on the A1

A CAR caught fire as it went past Biggleswade on the A1.

The Ford Ka was travelling along the northbound carriageway between the Biggleswade north roundabout and the Biggleswade south roundabout when the incident happened on Tuesday (November 15).

It came to a halt close to the back of Matalan.

A spokesman for Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received a call at 7.38am to say that a car was on fire.

“Two crews from Biggleswade attended with a crew from Sandy to provide support for safety.

“It was put out by two firefighters in breathing apparatus and it was declared under control at 7.57am.”

Everybody got out of the car safely and there were no injuries.
