Carnival fever hits town as festivities get under way

Festivities are well and truly under way in Biggleswade as this year’s carnival proceedings start in earnest.

The Carnival Darts Night will be taking place on Monday, June 10 at the Biggleswade United Working Men’s Club, starting at 8.15pm.

Anyone who would like to take part just needs to find a darts partner, turn up at the club and pay the £5 entry fee.

There will be cash prizes available as well as a raffle.

On Saturday, June 15 there will be a race night at the Coach and Horses pub in Shortmead Street.

On Sunday, June 16 the Duck Race will be held at the Dan Albone car park on the River Ivel.

Hundreds of ducks take to the river over a series of races and entrants can pay £1 per duck to sponsor their bird, with cash prizes up for grabs for winners and runners-up.

The event will run from noon onwards and there will also be stalls and games, a mini barbecue and disco.

Those who are up on their general knowledge can also take part in the Carnival Quiz Night, which will take place at the Working Men’s Club on Monday, June 17.

Teams of up to six just need to turn up at 7.30pm.

It will be eyes down for the Carnival Bingo Night the following evening at the same venue, starting at 8pm.

Books are just £1 each and all money paid for them is given away as prize money, with the jackpot standing at £100.

The Grand Parade of Floats will make its way through the town on Saturday, June 22, while on Sunday, June 23 the Kids’ Disco and grand draw will be held at the working men’s club.

Disco tickets are now on sale at the Biggleswade Chronicle offices in the High Street.
