Cat is killed after attack in Sandy

A CAT owner was woken up in the early hours to hear that her pet had been kicked to death.

A neighbour called at the Sandy home of Amanda Saunders at around 1am last Saturday (December 3) after finding the animal lying in a tree.

The two-year-old ginger cat Marlene had been kicked so hard that her ribs had been forced into her lungs.

Amanda, of Wesley Road, is still coming to terms with the death and the ferocity of the attack.

She said: “At first I thought it was just a bad accident of some kind, but then my neighbour told me that my cat had a large hole in her side.

“I took her body to the vet and they said that it must have been a deliberate attack.

“The vet said that an injury as serious as that in that part of her body could not have been caused by an accident, only by an attack with a sharp instrument.”

The vet said the force of the blow would have been enough to send Marlene flying into the tree.

Amanda, who has lived with her husband John in the road for the last 17 years, cannot believe that someone could have been capable of such a cruel attack.

She said: “I’m horrified that something like this could have happened to my cat.

“I’m completely shocked that anyone could carry out an attack on a cat seemingly at random like this.”

The couple also have another cat, Boycie.

The two were named after the famous couple in BBC TV comedy Only Fools and Horses.

A spokesman for Bedfordshire Police confirmed that the attack took place sometime between 11.30pm on Friday, December 2 and 1am on Saturday, December 3.

Anyone with any information should contact Bedfordshire Police on 101.

A spokesperson for the RSPCA said: “The RSPCA is sorry to hear about this tragic incident.
