Central Bedfordshire has issued a warning about hoax calls after a number of residents have been contacted by people claiming to be from the council.
The unidentified callers say that they are from the council’s accident investigation department or ringing on behalf of the NHS about a recent accident.
The numbers they have been using appear to come from London as they start 0208, but are actually just randomly generated.
Councillor Anthony Brown, Deputy Executive Member for Community Services, said: “Scam callers can often be very convincing and claim to be working on behalf of a well-known and reputable organisation.”
