Biggleswade Town Council may write to Central Beds Council to ask about making Sun Street and St John’s Street in the town one way.

Councillor David Albone put forward the idea at a meeting of the town council’s off street car parking committee on Tuesday (April 30).

He said: “We all know how congested the two roads can become at times, which can create problems for residents who live in the roads and for drivers in the area generally.

“This could be improved if traffic was travelling in just one direction.”

Committee chairman Madeline Russell agreed that the possibility of a one-way system could be worth looking into.

She said: “It does get busy but I think it is also an important route which is used by emergency vehicles, especially when they need to travel between the residential roads and the A1.

“It could be worth writing to Central Beds Council to find out what the logistics would involve.”

The committee agreed to recommend to full council that it writes to Central Beds Council for information.
