A housing group collected gifts to give out to those in need at Christmas.

The GiveaGift appeal has seen Grand Union Housing Group (GUHG) collect hundreds of gifts which have been distributed to bring festive cheer to families, single people and older people.

Gifts flooded into the offices of GUHG’s subsidiaries, Aragon and South Northants Homes, as well as many of their retirement schemes in the district.

Alan Humphreys, group chief executive, said: “Christmas is a time of giving and goodwill to all, and the GiveaGift campaign has proved this once again. We have seen an incredible response from staff, tenants, local businesses and even the general public to the appeal.

“Everyone’s generosity has been so touching, especially at a time when money can be tight. These gifts will make a massive difference this Christmas to people who may otherwise not receive anything.”

Group staff nominated certain tenants to benefit from a little extra Christmas cheer, but after the overwhelming support and number of donations, many others received gifts too.

Gifts also found their way to The Need Project, a foodbank based in Stotfold, and Home-Start Daventry and South Northants, a charity which supports families who are experiencing difficulties.

As well as donating presents, staff gave up their time to wrap all of the gifts before they were sent out to be delivered. Grand Union Housing Group is a leading provider of affordable housing and related services in Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire, owning and managing nearly 11,000 properties.

It helps people to enter the housing market through shared ownership homes and is currently developing more than 150 new homes per year in partnership with developers and landowners. It has development partner status with the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).
