Collision on the A1

TWO men were hospitalised following a road traffic collision on the A1 on Tuesday (November 22).

A Fiat Punto, Ford Transit van and a Honda Accord were involved in the collision, which occurred at around 7.20am.

The three vehicles collided on the southbound carriageway around 400 yards north of the Sainsbury’s Biggleswade roundabout.

Paramedics from the East of England Ambulance Service attended and the two men were taken to Bedford Hospital suffering from neck and back pain.

Bedfordshire Police closed one of the lanes following the collision causing long tailbacks going back to the A1 Sandy roundabout.

The carriageway was reopened at around 10.47am.

A spokesman for Bedfordshire Police confirmed that some railings at the side of the road were also damaged in the collision and that an investigation is under way.

Fire engines and crews from Biggleswade, Sandy and Potton also attended.

None of the occupants of the vehicles were trapped. The crews made sure the road was safe before it reopened.
