On Monday (May 20) Central Beds Council will launch the official consultation about its Gypsy and Traveller Local Plan.

A great many people have already spoken out at meetings and sent in written correspondence relating to the proposed sites.

However everyone will need to complete the official consultation to make their views count, even if they have already registered their opinion ahead of previous meetings.

Councillor Nigel Young, executive member for sustainable communities (strategic planning and economic development), said: “Our Gypsy and Traveller Local Plan has provoked some strong reactions and the short-list of sites has certainly caused considerable debate.

“It’s important that we try to meet the housing needs of all our local communities – yet we also want to fully understand the potential impact of our proposals.

“The questionnaire gives you the freedom to say what you want, using the guidelines which are necessary to make it suitable for assessment by the planning inspector.

“You will also have the opportunity to ask to make a verbal representation to the planning inspector.”

All comments submitted as part of this official consultation will be sent to the Secretary of State.

The consultation will be available online at www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/gypsytravellerplan

Paper copies will be available at the Central Beds Council offices and in the libraries. The consultation will be open until Monday, July 1.
