There have been celebrations this week for a Biggleswade couple who have reached their 75th wedding anniversary.

Cecil ‘Ben’ and Iris Page held a family get-together at their home in the town on Monday, August 24, cutting a celebratory cake and receiving cards from many well wishers.

Cecil, who is 95, and Iris, who will be 93 on Christmas Day, were married at Biggleswade parish church. The couple were both born in the town, went to school locally and have lived here all their lives.

Cecil was doing a milk round when he met Iris, and the couple were married when he was 20 and she was 17.

Cecil, who served with the artillery in the Second World War, has worked at a number of firms over the years, spending many at Vauxhall in Luton.

Iris worked for a number of years at the former Kaiser Bonder, then in Hitchin Street, and also at Barclays canteen, also no longer there.

The couple had two children, daughter Janet, and son Robert who sadly died in his forties from cancer.

They have two grandsons, Craig and Andrew, and four great-grandchildren.
