Safety alarms to be handed out by police

Bedfordshire Police is offering the alarms after it obtained 375 of them from the Biggleswade Community Safety Group, which donated £1,000 to the project.

The alarms – which are police approved – are one of the loudest available on the market and incorporate a flashing strobe light so that the holder can be easily located in an emergency.

The alarms will now be distributed by the local policing team to members of the public who they come into contact with and are vulnerable or have been repeat victims of crime.

Biggleswade PCSO Michela Didonato said: “This was a wonderful donation from the Community Safety Group and we are extremely grateful that we can now hand out these alarms to people who will feel a lot safer by having one.

“The Community Safety Group does some fantastic work around Biggleswade and we are always looking for more people to join in and help their local communities.

“We have a number of Street Watch and Speed Watch groups coming together but we are always keen to have new members.”
