The family event was held at the Bangkok Lounge, the award-winning fine Thai dining restaurant in Bedford Road, on Sunday, July 3.

The race event has raised £3,865 for the community charity-run Acorn Pre-School and The Mighty Oaks breakfast and after-school club for children who attend the pre-school and pupils at Shefford Lower School.

Visitors could tuck into Thai cuisine provided by Bangkok Lounge and have fun at a skittle stall provided by main sponsor, Country Properties.

Motin Miah, owner and general manager at Bangkok Lounge, said: “We love to be involved in community events like this. The Shefford Annual Duck Race is great fun – a family day out that really brings the community together. We’ve made some great memories at previous duck races, so we were delighted to host the event yet again.”

Jacqui Lewis, chairperson and trustee at Acorn Pre-School and the Mighty Oaks, said: “It’s great to have the support of Bangkok Lounge for this event once again. Their delicious food and fabulous garden give the people of Shefford even more reason to come along and join in the fun.”

Funds raised last year were used to maintain the building and buy new equipment for both the pre-school itself and the breakfast and after-school clubs.

Occupying an historic building dating back to the 1600s and sitting on the banks of the river Flit, the Bangkok Lounge prides itself on the originality of its genuine Thai menu.

All dishes are prepared from fresh ingredients such as herbs, fruits and plants native to Thailand. Chefs at the restaurant further enhance these unique dishes by making them to each individual’s own personal taste.
