A feisty woman in her 70s beat a mugger to the floor with her walking stick.
The elderly victim was followed and attacked from behind as the crook attempted to grab her handbag.
But the pensioner hit him a number of times with the stick until he fell to the floor.
He then ran away but managed to grab her mobile and a small sum of money from her handbag.
The brave woman was uninjured after the incident at around 3pm on Monday in Gamlingay.
Police are appealing for witnesses to a collision to come forward which occurred shortly after the robbery.
It involved a silver Vauxhall Vectra which was seen repeatedly driving around the area prior to the robbery.
A vehicle matching this car’s description was then involved in a collision close to the Tesco supermarket in the town.
The two occupants made off in another car which is believed to have been using false number plates.
Det Sgt Andrew Gaunt-Warner said: “This was an unprovoked attack on a vulnerable member of the public in broad daylight.”
