Experiencing life as an evacuee in the Second World War

HISTORICALLY minded pupils had a fabulous time during their Second World War day.

The Year 3 and 4 students at Caldecote Lower School were visited by Andrew Spooner of Skylark Battlefield Tours on Wednesday (October 19). Key Stage 2 teacher, Heather Sladen, said: “The children really liked being evacuees. It was a fantastic day.

“They squirted water across the playground with stirrup pumps. That was their highlight of the day because they enjoy playing with water so much and they got drenched!

“We had an air raid shelter in the classroom we set the siren off and they had a quarter of an hour in there.

“They went in in pairs and they didn’t know who they would be with until the siren went off.”
