Grand parade will send floats to Hollywood

Excitement is building because it’s almost carnival time!

Sandy Carnival will be held next week on Saturday, June 15. Preparations have been under way for months. This time it will be a real film frenzy with the Hollywood theme.

The carnival princess will be Phoenix Tycer of Laburnum Lower School. The prince will be Lucas Todd of Robert Peel Lower School.

Both children are seven years old.

Anyone wishing to get into the carnival spirit this weekend is also in luck, as long as they have a canine friend.

A dog show will be held on Sunday (June 9) at the Sunderland Road Recreation Ground.

All breeds of dogs and mutts can take part. Each class will cost £1 to enter. Registration opens at 10am and the classes will begin at 11am.

Prizes include a meal for two at the Holiday Inn, £100 cash, vouchers for local businesses and wine. Tickets cost 20p each or £1 for a strip.

The carnival procession on Saturday, June 15 will start from Western Way at 1.30pm.

It will wend its way through the town before finishing at Sandy Place Academy at 2pm.

The carnival arena will be packed with acts including a karate demonstration, majorettes, a youth theatre group and the Biggleswade Sea Cadets. There will also be plenty of stalls, face painting, archery and a fun fair.
