Landlords hoping to turn the corner for iconic pub

The Cornerstone is opening its doors again after a £190,000 refurbishment and there will be a warm welcome for everyone at the launch. Music will be provided by a local band on the night.

Stuart Judd, the new operator, says the pub has attracted bad press in the past but he has a track record of turning round failing pubs.

The Cornerstone will be managed for him by Natalie and her partner Lee – who are highly experienced and enthusiastic about transforming the pub into a family-friendly community local.

The new-look Cornerstone has been refurbished, redecorated and refitted inside and out, and with a focus on great service and quality.

The pub will serve home-cooked traditional pub food, with daily specials and a children’s menu.

With the latest opening hours in the area at weekends, The Cornerstone will be a venue for live music, Karaoke and other events. During the week there will be regular quiz and open mic nights. The pub will also showcase the big sports events on BT Sport and Sky Sports, with four large-screen TVs and another four screens built in to seating booths.

Although the current building is Victorian, there is believed to have been a pub on the site since the 1600s when William Barber was landlord of The Black Swan. It was only recently renamed The Cornerstone.
