Loudspeaker firm could move to Biggleswade

A firm which makes speakers used by the likes of Robbie Williams, Prince and Brian May could be moving to Chronicle Country.

PMC Limited – which manufactures, sells and distributes the speakers for professional recording studios – wants to set up base at the historic Holme Court in Biggleswade.

Holme Court is thought to date back to 1861 and until August last year was running as Holme Court School.

It was later put up for sale by owners Christopher and Barbara Watkiss who live next door.

Located off the Great North Road close to the A1, Holme Court, which has buildings measuring 12,015sq ft and grounds of around five acres operated as a school for eight years.

An planning application has now been lodged with Central Beds Council for a change of use at the site from a school to a place of business.

PMC also makes speakers for hi-fi enthusiasts and its high-profile clients include the BBC, Google and Dolby.

Holme Court would be used for administration, marketing, sales and research and development.

The company would also use the building for showpiece events for its clients, and would employ 15 people.

If the application is approved PMC would make only small alterations to the interior rooms.

At a meeting of Biggleswade Town Council on Tuesday last week (November 13) councillors agreed cautious support for the plans, provided that there is safe access for vehicles to and from the premises via the A1 and that there are no problems with traffic congestion.
