A miracle little boy has appeared on ITV’s Text Santa Appeal.
Three-year-old Stone Josephs and his family appeared on this year’s TV appeal, featuring in a short film for Together for Short Lives, one of the six Text Santa charities.
The emotional film showcased how hospices like Keech Hospice Care supports families and how money raised for Together for Short Lives will help support the UK’s 53 children’s hospices.
Stone, from Stotfold, was a happy and healthy toddler when disaster struck.
Just before his first birthday last year he contracted meningitis. Following a severe seizure, he was rushed to hospital where his heart stopped for 17 minutes. He experienced a lack of oxygen to the brain, which left him severely brain damaged.
Mum Lisa was told that Stone had days to live so she decided to bring him to Keech Hospice Care.
She said: “I spoke to the staff about him dying, and not knowing what to do so we all sat down and worked together to make Stone’s ‘end of life’ care plan.
“The nurses were amazing and had made up a lovely bed for Stone when we arrived. They said if I wanted to I could get in bed with him and give him a cuddle, so I did. I got in and held his hand. I honestly believed that it was our last cuddle.”
But thanks to round the clock care and support from Keech, Stone has now survived over a year.
Stone and his family receive support from Keech Hospice Care including complementary therapies, family swims in the hydrotherapy pool as well as respite care.
