Mother's Day appeal launched for hospice

A new fundraising appeal is being launched by Sue Ryder St John's Hospice in the weeks running up to Mother's Day.

Starting on Monday, February 8, the hospice will be looking for help in keeping the essential services running, and it costs £7,500 each day to keep the centre open.

A spokeswoman for St John’s said: “Every year more than 500,000 people die in the UK and for many this Mother’s Day will be very emotional.

“Whilst most of us will be celebrating Mother’s Day at home with our families, others will be spending their last days at St John’s Hospice. Our specialist doctors, nurses, clinical staff, cleaners and kitchen staff, will all be working hard. Patients and families will be cared for, dinners will be served, and, despite the emotional turmoil, our caring staff will ensure that this Mother’s Day will be full of happy memories for everyone.”

Sue Ryder St John’s Hospice provides care for patients who are dying from conditions such as cancer, heart failure and other life limiting conditions. The care is also provided out in the community and in people’s own homes.
