Neighbourly new scheme for Biggleswade

EVERYBODY needs good neighbours and a group of Biggleswade residents are certainly living up to this mantra.

The four-strong group, which includes Terrie Bell, of Drove Road is setting up a new scheme designed to help residents in the town who are in need of help in one way or another. The Biggleswade Good Neighbours Group scheme means that members of the group will be available for residents to contact when they need assistance.

Terrie said: “It could be anyone who needs our help really, especially elderly residents who may need assistance with the shopping or if they need electrical work done in their house, for example.

“We have contacts who can help, including an electrician who would be able to take care of that side of things.

“He could charge for the parts that are required but not for the labour if money is an issue.”

The group was set up following an appeal from Central Beds Council.

Terrie added: “The council was asking for groups of residents who wanted to set up help and support schemes to get in touch. We did so and we have been given a grant of £300 that we can use for starting up.”

The money can also be used to help residents who may be short of cash too.

Terrie said: “If people are hard up we can also help out on the financial side. The service will be of particular use to people who may be living away from the area but who have elderly parents in Biggleswade.”
