New trial set for three

THE jury trying the case of a pensioner who is accused of being a drug dealer was discharged from returning verdicts on Wednesday.

Judge Barbara Mensah made the ruling at Luton Crown Court after legal arguments in the fourth week of the case against George Evans, Brian Smith and Evans’ wife Anne. Evans, 75, Smith, 52, and Anne Evans, 54, will face a new trial in May next year.

George Evans, of Herts and Brian Smith have pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to supply Class A drugs. George and Anne Evans, of Beds also deny acquiring and converting criminal property.
