Those whose achievements were acknowledged and celebrated from Chronicle Country were Sir Peter Kendall who received a Knighthood for services to the Agricultural Industry in England and Wales, Cllr Carole Ellis MBE, for services to local government and charity and Andrew Wallis MBE, for services to the commemoration of national heritage and charity.

A farmer in East Bedfordshire, Sir Peter is the current chairman of the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board.

He said: “I am incredibly proud to receive this honour and to have had the privilege of helping represent and promote British farming.”

Meanwhile, Mayor of Bedford Dave Hodgson, paid tribute to Cllr Ellis who was awarded the MBE in December shortly before losing her fight with a long-standing illness.

Mr Wallis, from Henlow, who also received an MBE is curator of the Guards Museum in London.

He said: “This is a real thrill for me. I was very surprised when I heard about it.

“I work with a lot of guardsmen who do great things and are rewarded, so to be put in the same bracket as them is quite something.”

Speaking after the ceremony Mrs Nellis said: “All the recipients have brought enrichment to others, each with a tremendous impact in their fields.”
