No to online details

A former town councillor has spoken against new Government legislation, which led him to resign.

Geoff Emery, who was a member of Potton Town Council until the end of July, left his post when new requirements came into force stating that councillors’ pecuniary interests must be available online.

His wife, Christine, also resigned from Gamlingay Parish Council, after the Localism Act 2011 came into force on July 31.

Councillors’ business and financial interests previously had to be available for viewing in the council offices but they did not have to be online.

Geoff said that he was happy for his constituents to see these details but he did not want people across the world to be able to look at them.
