Nadine Dorries MP: 2013 the year recovery finally took hold

After the excitement that was 2012, with the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics, 2013 was always going to seem like a letdown, although I hope not too many people felt that way! Perhaps most importantly, 2013 was the year that the economic recovery finally took hold.

I know that there is a world of difference between economists talking about dry statistics and the reality of growth being felt in the constituency, in local businesses and people’s pockets. That trickledown effect is one of many things we have to look forward to in 2014.

The monthly briefings I receive have described an improving picture in Mid-Bedfordshire. The number of apprentices has been consistently rising and the number of people unemployed is falling.

As the conditions become more favourable, I am keener than ever to support the creation and expansion of small and medium sized businesses in the constituency. We have an enviable location, excellent communication links and a hugely innovative workforce.

In 2013 my staff and I have dealt with a huge range of constituency casework. I would like to thank everybody who has got in touch with me, either to make known their views on a political topic, raising consumer issues or problems you may have faced in dealing with central government.

I sincerely hope you will never need to come to me for help but, if you do, please do not hesitate to pick up that phone or fire off an email. I cannot guarantee to solve all problems but I will certainly try!

I wish you all a very merry Christmas and hope that 2014 will bring you fulfilment, success and happiness.
